Emergency Candles

Emergency candles are a great source of light when the power goes out.  They provide light for a long duration allowing them to be used more than once and allow you to conserve your batteries for other items while not being stuck in the dark.  This particular set of candles includes 3 candles and each of them can provide light for over 115 hours!

Emergency Candles feature:

  • Three emergency candles – each lasting 115 hours +
  • Liquid paraffin which is odorless and smokeless
  • Comes with a plastic storage cap, to reduce messy spills
  • Great gift for family, friend, or neighbor
  • A must have for your at home emergency kit

This candle is clean-burning and burns liquid paraffin, odorless and smokeless, making it great for indoor use. Keep one handy with a book of matches taped to it for your next power outage. The liquid fuel is sealed inside, with only the wick exposed. You can extinguish, and use again and again. A very safe source of light! Set of 3 candles. This candle should be used only with adult supervision. Remember, safety first!

Have you been looking for a great addition to your bug in supplies?  Maybe you are putting together a hurricane or tornado kit.  Or maybe you live in colder climates and lose power as the snow piles up.  Whatever the situation, these candles can provide much needed light when the power goes out and holding a flashlight just won’t do.

This kit comes with great price so we recommend picking up more than one set so that you will be prepared for whatever comes your way.  Having multiple sets can allow you to store these in various places so that you are not searching for them when the lights go out.

Bug out Bag – Get home bag – Go Bag

A bug out bag can go by many names (bug out bag, go bag, get home bag, etc.). These bags can be tailored to suite multiple purposes or different bags used for each situation where they are needed but they share a common goal. They serve as a bag small enough to take with you or grab in a hurry but large enough to carry the most essential items. In this article we plan to cover only a couple but there are many possibilities to best suit your needs, prepping situation, and even style.  Also in this article we will cover the basic items your bug out bag should contain.  This will be a basic list of the first items you should put in your bug out bag when getting started.  Your list will grow larger over time but this is geared toward getting started.

Bug out Bag options:

First, although small, we love the Rush Moab 6 by 5.11.  This is a great pack that is small enough to carry with you anywhere but has great storage options.  It has a great admin pouch in the front to carry knives, paper, pens, keys, and smaller items.  It then has two larger sections with a padded back.  A great feature is that there is also a dedicated concealed carry pouch with velcro access for easy and fast retrieval of your weapon.

The 5.11 Rush Moab 6 does come with a drawback that is also a feature.  Its size.  It is a small pack great for everyday carry but due to its smaller size it might not fit all of your essentials so bare that in mind.

If you are looking for a larger pack we recommend another bag from 5.11.  The Rush Moab 12.

Finally another pack could be the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack which you can get HERE.

Prepping Gear Tactical Gun Safe

Looking for a gun safe?  Whether you are a seasoned prepper with a great list of supplies and tools or you are just getting started out, a gun safe is a great addition to any prepper arsenal.  You have invested a lot in to your prepping supplies and have multiple lines of defense…now what do you do with these valuable items?  A gun safe is a great option.  It offers many benefits which we will get in to below.  Don’t leave yourself unprotected.  You are preparing for various possibilities, many of which could include some type of civil unrest.  Protect your valuables whether home or away with a strong safe.

Some reasons to own a gun safe:

  1. Safety – Owning firearms comes with a responsibility so owning a gun safe not only protects you against burglary but also protects those around you and keeps them safe from your guns falling in to the wrong hands
  2. Prevent Child access to firearms – Along with safety, you do not want your firearms in a place accessible by children.  Keeping them locked away in a safe will prevent access to them keeping our children and those that they come in contact with safe.
  3. Protect 2nd amendment rights – demonstrate responsible firearm ownership by keeping your guns safe, protected, and inaccessible from those who should not have access to your weapons.
  4. Protect against theft – this almost goes without saying.  having your guns locked away in a strong gun safe will keep your firearms away from those trespassing
  5. Keep yourself out of court – again, owning a firearm comes with great responsibility.  If you own a gun and it is stolen and used in a criminal act you could find yourself in court.  Yes, you could find yourself in a very expensive, stressful lawsuit if it is determined that the gun used in a criminal activity was not obtained from you because it was not stored away in a safe manner.
  6. Protect and organize other valuables items and prepper supplies – gun safes can come in various sizes and it is recommended that you purchase a safe that is larger than your current needs.  If you buy a safe that is just big enough for your current firearms then you limit your space to grow.  If you purchase a larger safe then you have additional storage space.  Space that can be used to store other valuables, other prepping supplies, etc.

There are various types of safes to find the safe that is best suited for your needs

  1. Floor safes – these are large, floor standing safes that offer the largest amount of storage space.  They also offer greater protection because they are too bulky and heavy for someone to walk away with.
  2. Wall safes – these are smaller safes that can be mounted in the wall.  These are great for concealment but are more limited in what you can store in them
  3. Floor safes – similar to wall safes, these offer great concealment by mounting them in the floor.
  4. Small lock boxes – these are great for one or two weapons that you want to have more accessible.  There are many options including key lock, button combination locking, and also fingerprint, biometric locking.  These are great for your home defense or your concealed carry weapon while you are at home and great to be bedside while sleeping.

Water Storage Containers for Prepping

Water Storage Containers for Prepping – Prepper Water Storage

As preppers, we find ourselves looking for the best EDC, the best self defense items, the latest gear but the most important item of all that often gets overlooked is water.  Water is absolutely critical but we often lose sight of it when putting together our supplies.  Here we cover water storage containers.

We can only last 3 days without water.  3 days!  We buy all of this gear to survive almost every situation but it will not serve us any good if we are not around to use it.

Preppers should have more than one way to obtain water but minimally should have a good initial supply to get us through tough times while we focus on other elements for survival.

A good rule is to have 1 gallon of water per person per day.  A case or two of bottled water from your local grocery store is going to go and it is going to go fast.  Let’s put this in to perspective.  You are a family of four and you have to go one week without water supplied from your household plumbing.  That is 28 gallons of water that you will need and that is just to get by.  1 case of water is roughly 2.25 gallons.   That is over 12 cases of water you will need to have on hand.  Now let’s say you go 2 weeks without running water.  that is over 24 cases of water to get the 56 gallons that you will need.  But at 2 weeks your needs will most likely exceed 1 gallon per person per day.

We need water to:

  • Drink
  • Food Prep and Cooking
  • Bath
  • Clean clothes
  • First Aid

Water Storage Containers is a great backup to any system that you might have in place.

Something simple like this 55 gallon water barrel (below) is a great start!  This is actually a kit which includes a siphon, caps, and water treatment.  This is a great first purchase and then you can build on this with additional 55 gallon water barrels.

Get yours here ==> Ultimate 55-Gallon Water Barrel Combo

With this water barrel you can begin collecting fresh water to have on hand when you need it most.

Now don’t stop here.  You still need a plan on how to filter water should this run dry before you are able to get fresh water from the tap.

Check out our post related to water filtering here   You should have a way to store, collect, and filter water.  Any great prepper kit should include some type of water storage containers, a way to collect fresh rain water (which you could reuse this barrel to accomplish that after you have used up the water in it), and a way to filter water from other water sources.

If you are so inclined, perhaps you’d prefer a bigger water storage option.

Below is a great large water container that holds 160 gallons!

You also get an even greater discount if you order more than one and the great part is that they are stack-able so you can have a large storage capacity that doesn’t take up a ton of space.

Don’t forget to check out our post related to water filtering here and we hope you find this article helpful for finding  great water storage containers to help you stock up a good water supply.

Prepping & Survival Water Filter

Prepping and Survival Water Filters

A person can go 3 days without water.  That might seem like a lot but in the event of a disaster or any other situation that might arise, 3 days will come and go at the blink of an eye.  Water is a core necessity for survival so having a way to have clean drinking water is of the utmost importance.  Water storage could be your thing and you have stored and stored water in large bins or containers and you might think that is enough.  What happens when that supply runs out?  Will you be prepared?  Consider a survival water filter.

There are several ways to obtain clean drinking water.

  1. You can have a large storage supply of water on hand
  2. You can collect it from rain water
  3. You can boil water to help remove impurities
  4. You can use chemical tablets to purify water
  5. Or, you can purify it with a personal water filter!

Part of being a prepper is having options.  You should have more than one way to obtain water so a filter is great to add to any supply list to add a second or third option to your survival list.

Personal water filters come in many different shapes and sizes.

A personal survival water filter such as the Sawyer Mini Water Filtration system is a great start.

It is not very expensive and is great for prepping, camping, scouting, hiking, emergency preparation.  Also, it is very lightweight and offers great filtration:

  • Removes 99.99999% of all bacteria, such as salmonella, cholera, and E.coli; removes 99.9999% of all protozoa, such as giardia and cryptosporidium
  • Filter rated up to 100,000 gallons; includes 16-ounce reusable squeeze pouch, 7-inch drinking straw, and cleaning plunger

If you are looking for a larger filtration system to help filter water for your and your loved ones then the LifeStraw Family 1.0 Water Purifier is a great option.

It offers clean drinking water for a family of four for 3 years!

It also has great purification with:

  • Purifies 18,000 liters/4755 gallons without iodine, chlorine, or other chemicals
  • Surpasses EPA standards for water purifiers: removes 99.99% viruses, 99.9999% bacteria and 99.9% protozoan cysts to 0.02 microns

There are many other options to help filter water during a time of need but the two above are inexpensive options to add to any survival kit.  Later we will discuss ways to filter water and water storage but again, you should have more than one way to obtain clean drinking water to survive.

Now that you have your survival water filter, check out Water Storage Containers HERE.
